Why we bother

None of this is charity. We think the dark-pattern playbook — make it hard to leave, easy to overpay — is a short game that treats people like marks. We'd rather build tools you stay with because they're good, and leave freely whenever you want. That's a longer game, and it's the only one worth playing.
